OSP Engineer




Position Summary

The OSP Engineer designs and manages the deployment of outside plant fiber and copper networks. This includes route planning, construction drawings, capacity analysis, and coordination with permitting, construction, and GIS teams to support broadband expansion and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design aerial and underground fiber routes, splice plans, and slack locations
  • Generate construction drawings, BOMs, and splice schematics
  • Conduct field site walks to assess feasibility and identify optimal routing solutions
  • Coordinate with permitting and pole attachment teams for compliance
  • Perform make-ready engineering (MRE) evaluations for utility pole attachments
  • Interface with GIS, drafting, and project management teams
  • Ensure adherence to local codes and industry standards
  • Review as-builts and validate accuracy of final constructed networks

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
  • 3+ years of OSP engineering experience in telecom or broadband deployment
  • Proficiency in reading construction drawings and OSP schematics
  • Familiarity with fiber design tools (e.g., Vetro FiberMap, OSPInsight, 3GIS)
  • Knowledge of NESC, NEC, RUS, or regional permitting standards
